This is the bio bit…

In a nutshell, I am a self-confessed over-sharer. I can’t help myself. I have no filter; except on Instagram where I like to use a bit of Clarendon or Valencia. I sometimes wish - along with friends & family - that I came with a thirty second delay button; but sadly I don’t…

I’m an English, curly-haired, Capricorn. A publicist by trade, who never leaves the house without a red lip on. I moved to Sydney from the UK in 2000, in part on the advice of a horoscope I read… but more of that later.

After 20 years as a publicist to the stars I have taken a leap of faith and quit my day job to follow my dream to write. As well as writing columns and attempting to write a book, I started a podcast. The pod I cunningly entitled: ‘So, I quit my day job…’ (did you see what I did there?) and it meant I got to tick off three of my favourite things; telling stories, hearing the life tales of others, and hopefully making people laugh along the way. Oh Michael Parkinson eat your heart out!

The podcast led to a publishing deal and my debut book ‘Currently Between Husbands’ (out now) through the totally lush folk at Simon & Schuster. As well as writing I started a second podcast with my best mate and radio host Sarah McGilivray. Not Another Parenting Podcast (through NOVA Entertainment) is a podcast for parents who wonder why day care is closed on a weekend. I also scored a regular column with Body+Soul called ‘Tales From An Over Sharer’. I’m super chuffed to have partnered with the amazing Narelda Jacobs to co-host the Mamamia podcast the 456 Club for women in their forties, fifties, sixties and beyond.

What else? I am self-deprecating and definitely a glass-half-full bird. I love music, Tom Hardy, Lurpak butter, psychics, bad dancing, Marks & Spencer undies, my delicious son and a good British TV murder series.

What can you expect to see here? Well even after a great university education and many fab jobs I am still yet to find my ‘specialist subject’. I know a little bit about a lot of things; across random topics like parenting, eating but not cooking, Tinder (do’s and don’ts), crystals and how long you can keep mince once its been cooked… for that I always ask my Mum, not Siri.

I hope you enjoy reading my over-shares. Please sign up to the Podcasts if you fancy hearing my dulcet tones, I’d like think I give it my best proper BBC radio voice but I may sound a bit more Little Britain if I’m honest.

‘Currently Between Husbands’

CATHRINE MAHONEY’S DEBUT BOOK SIMON & SCHUSTER OUT NOW!

There is life and love (and plenty of laughter) after divorce, even when your ex is one of Australia’s highest profile sport stars.

Actually, I Don’t Like Cricket Or Blow Jobs! (And to be honest, I suck at both.) Yes, that was what I originally wanted to call this book. But then I realised that some women like cricket. Also, reading this in front of your inquisitive seven-year-old could lead to some awkward conversations. So, in stepped Currently Between Husbands to save the day and any blushes.

Having a relationship in the spotlight is hard enough, but in Currently Between Husbands, Cathrine Mahoney details the unique experience of breaking up with one of Australia's highest profile sport stars. Even for a self-confessed over-sharer, the breakdown of her marriage to rugby league player Andrew Johns was more public than she was used to. In her first book, the writer, podcaster and publicist provides a self-deprecating and hilarious look at her life – from fashion mistakes and early crushes as a kid growing up in Wales, to her years working with some of the world's biggest stars at Sony Music, to navigating life and love as a ‘solo’ mum, and coming to terms with hitting the big 4-0. Currently Between Husbands is the equivalent of having a chat with your bestie over a drink or two, with all the inappropriate confessions, front bottom revelations and teary moments that entails. As Mahoney describes, the book is ‘Bridget Jones meets Eat Pray Love, but with less yoga, bigger undies and more vodka!’.

Strap in. You’re in for a fabulous ride. And you’ll be wishing (like I was before I knew her) that she was your friend. It’s a bloody good book, and I didn’t want it to end.
— Amanda Kellar OAM, radio host and TV presenter

Not Another Parenting Podcast

This is NOT your typical parenting podcast. You won’t get advice on the best way to swaddle your child, how to have ‘the talk’ or whether to give them pocket money. This podcast, hosted by Sarah McGilvray and Cathrine Mahoney, is a safe place for any parent who gets to the end of the week thinking “How did I keep my children alive?”

So, I Quit My Day Job

A podcast that travels the bumpy road to achieving your dreams and speaks to those who have successfully made the leap.

Have you ever wanted to quit your day job and follow your dream career? Cathrine Mahoney did it. It wasn't easy, but she gave up a cushy job as a celebrity publicist and decided to try and make it as an author. Take a listen to these inspiring stories from guests all over the world.

Raise Ambassador

"I first came across Raise and the incredible work the organisation does five years ago. As a parent to a teenager, I’m aware of some of the issues such as bullying, social media and mental health that are increasingly facing young people. It can be very difficult for teenagers to reach out and ask for help. The Raise program offers a framework that is structured and offers a consistent, proven approach for both Mentors and Mentees."

"I have been lucky to have various mentors throughout my life (including now) and know the support, growth, and guidance they have brought to my journey. I’m thrilled to be Ambassador and to spread awareness and support in any way I can."

Get in touch, I don’t bite.
